I am very proud to announce my recent involvement with the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation at James River Correctional Center! This program gets inmates involved with horses that were donated for a variety of reasons in a manner that educates them, gives them a variety of vocational equine skills and saves the lives of some wonderful horses. Going to barn 4 at the JRCC has become a highlight in my week, riding these horses in an attempt to find a good job for them (ie. foxhunting, showing, trailriding or just companionship) and a safe future. Please click on the link and consider sending a donation, no matter how small (or large!) and support a wonderful group of men and horses.
With Jessica Bowen in the irons, retired race horse Colebrook Lake won two blue ribbons in his first hunter trial by jumping his way to champion in his division at the Deep Run Hunt Hunter Trials.
Excelling in his second career, the 12-year-old is again in the winner’s circle. Bowen commented, “He was soft and responsive and had as much fun as I did.” The solidly-built, dark brown gelding is adapting well to his new life as a sport horse.
